LightRecently, I’ve been struck by the gentle and releasing authority of the words of God.

There is something truly amazing about someone who releases creative power simply by giving permission.

In the Bible, the story of God creating begins:

And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” (taken from the Bible in Genesis 1:3-5)

Think about it. God creates with the words “let there be…” – simply granting permission calls light into existence. So powerful are the words of God that this is all it takes to create light and all the dimensions & possibilities that it carries within it!

Have you ever noticed how easy something looks in the hands of someone who possesses consummate skill in some craft or another? To us, as we look on,  the process of creation takes on a life of its own – as order arises from chaos, often in surprising ways, as the craftsman exercises their craft.

The mistake would be to somehow take for granted everything that the craftsman brings to the equation.

This “taking for granted” is often not possible for some things that we see around us. Think about a beautiful dress. Unquestionably beautiful; and yet there is also clear and unmissable industry that goes into it creation: From the work taken to prepare and dye the fabric, to the time & effort put into the design, to the rugged practicality of the dress shop or factory in which the dress is finally put together in.

Less obvious, and more easy to take for granted perhaps, is the craft of a skilled artist: In stark contrast to our unskilled hands, the artist handles the brush with comfortable ease and the subject of the painting emerges from the blank canvas seemingly of its own accord.

How about the words of God in “Let there be light”? So simple. So profound. So amazing.

You almost miss it.

Caught up in that granting of permission for light to enter existence is the most amazing symphony of threads, all woven together in perfect harmony: Think colour; all of the endless possibilities that colour brings to us from flowers to evening skies to deepest oceans. Think illumination; things that may be concealed in the darkness or revealed in the light. Think beauty; in the eye of the beholder perhaps, but conveyed through light. Think physics; the speed at which light travels, its properties, its interaction with gravity.

All of this – envisioned, designed, encapsulated and released in four simple words.

It is the same with Jesus; He speaks with the same gentle authority, and His words release power.

Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go! Let it be done just as you believed it would.” And his servant was healed at that moment. (taken from the Bible in Matthew 8:13)

A man, not even with Jesus physically, is healed as a result of the creative healing power released by Jesus simple words “let it be done…” – words which instantaneously granted permission for a supernatural physical healing to occur.

And all released by the words of a God who calls worlds into existence simply bygiving permission.
